Mt Burnett Observatory on ABC TV

It was fantastic to see James Murray, an Upwey Primary School parent and our Science in Schools partner, discuss the Mt Burnett observatory on ABC News. We were very lucky to travel up to the telescope, along with other schools in the area, last year for a special event (Mt Burnett 2013). James and a few other volunteers will be bringing the stars to us

Days of Old

80th Anniversary 1934 – 2014 Upwey Primary School has had its fair share of ups and downs. We are still here, providing excellent opportunities for all of our students and the community. Here are a couple of old newspaper articles that we found in the archives.

Working Bee April 2014

The April 6th Working Bee was very productive. Almost 15 adults and not quite as many kids turned up to lend a hand. We focussed on the car park area. Rob kindly brought his dingo along and moved the dirt and old mulch piles. Eric was working very hard, removing the grime from the walls around the admin building. Other parents were weeding, raking,

Snapshots from 3/4G

For this week’s journal, our class wrote a snapshot about one thing that happened last week. Here are a few examples from the boys. I picked up the strawberry and vanilla flavoured ice cream, closed my eyes and licked it. It tasted so good. I imagined a land of ice cream. Then suddenly a gust of ice and cold filled the land. I felt

With the way the weather looked it the morning, we might have had another cancellation. We had an unusual choice of sports mainly due to the rescheduling. The kids chose: Lawn Bowls Ultimate Frisbee

A huge thanks goes out to all of the parents and kids that helped out on Friday’s Working Bee (Oct 25th 2013). With over 20 people attending, we hope this encourages more families to attend in the future. Despite the rain, we still achieved a lot in three hours. The school wishes we could reward the courageous helpers with more than just sausages and

Pies, Frank and Tribes

WOW! What a busy week we had in 3/4G. Everyone made a pie for maths. A pie? Yes, it was to discover more about fractions. We learnt that you can divide a pie into different size pieces and it can be the same size as other pieces. The pies didn’t taste very good though. During our look into Electricity, we built a solar powered

New addition to our class

Term 3 has had a theatrical start. During the literacy group activities, we have started practising and performing the Readers’ Theatre plays. We have been watching each group’s play after lunch and have really enjoyed it. The most exciting new for the week though, is the addition of Callum. Callum is in year three and has fitted in really well. This week we have

Last Week of Term 1

The last week came around so quickly. Unfortunately, the Billy Cart G.P. was postponed due to the bad weather. It will be held early in Term 2. Keep an eye out in the newsletter for the date. We had a busy last week finishing off work and activities. We visited the library and spent to exploring and finding new books to read.

What’s Happening? Let’s find out.

Plants, Picnic, Poms and Pools

The second full week of 2013 was a very busy one. It all started with Jeremy’s mum and grandmother coming in on Tuesday to help us build Terrariums. In case you can’t remember back to the 80’s, Terrariums are simply jars with plants in them. They are a self contained ecosystem and can be completely sealed from the outside world.
